Dedications, credits and disclaimer

Dedication

This website has 2 dedications.

Firstly to Steve Dudley for all his work in attracting so many people to the island with his wonderful book, now sadly out of print. The countless hours he spent each spring to update the daily bird sightings collated from the various books around Skala Kallonis and the many people he took out on his daily birding trips.

Secondly to all those visitors who have loved the wildlife of the island and put so much into the FaceBook group who are no longer with us, to them thank you and rest in peace in the knowledge that your love lives on in others.

Credits

It would have been impossible to have created this website without the help and contribution from others with a common love of everything about Lesvos. To everyone who has allowed us to use their images, all who have checked the lists we’ve created, proofread our wording – thank you.

There have been a number of peoples images used, a special thank you to Eressos Steve and Petros Tsakmakis for their contributions, often photographed when none of us would be there. Of all the wildlife it is worth mentioning Phil Standfield and his images of 2 Ottoman Vipers that can be found in the Reptiles section. A wonderous moment rarely captured on ‘film’, to Kevin Hazelgrove for laying in the mud and sand to keep us entertained at dinner with his stunning photos and to John Cross ‘the old birder’ for his seemingly boundless enthusiasm. There are of course other people who have made equally as important contributions we mean no sleight by not naming everyone but we’d end up with a long list but to all an enormous thank you.

To Su Gough for allowing us to include her wonderful artwork that so wonderfully represents the island we can only say thank you, although that doesn’t seem enough!

From me, Phil, some personal thank you’s. Firstly, Steve Dudley who had the first website that formed the basis of this one, we all owe him so much for his hardworking in progressing birding and all aspects of wildlife in Lesvos. Hopefully, this website will do justice to his hard work and has expanded on the base he provided. Secondly, Paul Manning who leapt at the idea of creating this website after Steve told us of his closing down. From day 1 he has been a tremendous support and supplied an amazing attention to detail in the countless hours we have spent together in discussion, working and checking. Thirdly, Howard and Mick for all their work, help and advice, again invaluable.

From myself, Paul, in addition to Phil’s comments, I’d like to take the opportunity to thank Phil personally for his hard work and hope everyone using this site appreciates the effort he has put in.

Lastly this website is not commercial it has been created to try and share experiences. Anything on it is just built from our experience and in no way does it make cast iron recommendations. We take no responsibility if things change.

It has been a real journey doing all the work in creating this website starting with zero knowledge and learning as we went along. We have been limited in only having the basic version of the host to use as much of the functionality we would have liked to use was simply too expensive. This means that we could have made many things more attractive to the eye but sadly it was not to be.

We hope you find the site informative and adds to the enjoyment of the time you spend on the island.
